Only 20 Km from the sea and the foothills of the Cevennes, Alignan du Vent is waiting for you!!! The square tower of its keep, a vestige of the ancient "Castrum", is a precious witness to the village's history. Built on a mound in the centre of the village, it is protected by three, successive enclosures, which marked the village's development over the passing years. The church of "St Martin", formerly located outside the village walls along with the adjacent cemetery, was originally a little "Romanesque nave". The nave was enlarged at the end of the twelfth century, and the building bears the marks of time and of the transformations wrought by history. Despite the relative decline in agricultural activities, Alignan du Vent has neither renounced its past nor lost its soul and remains a lively and proud village. Vines cover the greatest part of its territory and their roots plunge deep into a mixture of clay and pebbles. Here, we are in the region where the Côtes de Thongue vins de pays are produced. Thanks to the efforts of previous generations, the wine makers of Alignan du Vent have succeeded in finding those grape varieties (Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc) best adapted to the local soil, while modern wine-making techniques fully enable the wines to express their own personalities.
